Seventeen year old Basil Simmons is a senior at Brier Ridge High School. He has led a hard life these last three years. The death of his mother, the abuse from his father. He is just trying to survive his last year of high school, hoping that when it ends he can escape his hell.

But things never seem to go to plan.

Things get harder for Basil when his father suddenly loses his job and takes his frustrations out on the only person he can; Basil. Basil finds it harder and harder to go on. But he forces himself to get up every morning, even though he knows the day will only bring more pain. He doesn't want to give up but he can't find meaning to his life. He is a burning star and his light is fading fast.
