The Forest of Maratania is a secret place, the last haven for magical creatures in an increasingly mundane world.  When the wizard Gideon is taken ill, King Jason offers a reward to anyone who can find the Forest and bring back the horn of the great stag Manthas.  It is the prime ingredient for the Elixir of Life, which is Gideon's only hope of surviving.  The offer sends magical creatures scrambling for sanctuary in the Forest.  But the influx of newcomers stokes tensions among the many species who have worked long and hard to live peacefully side by side.
