Sunset is, by definition, the perfect princess. She’s smart, beautiful, graceful, and has learned to respect and honor the customs and obligations of royalty, there is no one out there who could possibly be more ready to assume the throne of Mendus. The only problem? The princess has been keeping a dangerous secret. Every chance she gets she sneaks out of the palace to sword-fight with her friend Matthias, the son of the Captain of the Royal Guard. For six years she has managed to keep this a secret, but when she accidentally injures herself one day and allows her lady’s maid, Emilia, to see it the King and Queen discover her secret and worry leads them to take a drastic measure.
Daniel is, by definition, the perfect soldier. He is cunning, gallant, plain-looking, and a fantastic sword-fighter, everyone expects him to one day become the new Captain of the Royal Guard and reclaim his family’s birthright. The only problem? Daniel hates the royal family. The King stole his Father’s job from him and gave it to someone else, he let his Father get hurt protecting his precious family then just cast him aside like he was nothing, breaking a legacy as old as the royal family’s. But when the crown princess Sunset is placed in danger and the King and Queen call upon his services to keep her safe, he is forced to accept and soon finds himself in the middle of a horrible situation he thought he would never have to face.
And Matthias? He is a noble with no responsibilities whatsoever, all he wants is Sunset. Unfortunately for him, he’s not the only one desperate for to her to fall in love with him.
