Ree, a young 18 year old shapeshifter, whom is believed to be the last shapeshifter with an unusual power to talk to animals, and her 'Protector' Miska, a very large bengal white tiger, are on their way to a place where they can be safe, while being chased by a man named Shirr who plans to kill and sell Miska for her heart, which would allow people to have the abillity to become immortal if eaten right and use Ree for his own personal gain. But will Ree be so focused on how to get to the city of Quarsa when she meets another shapeshifter boy with a dragon? It won't stop until it dies, or until those who it hunts is dead. After finding a scent that is different but similar to its own, and to those it hunts, it will search far and near for the owner.
