"I looked into his eyes and I saw a want-a need for something. I knew what he wanted. He wanted the comfort of his best friend. He wanted the comfort of the past. He wanted the comfort of consistency-the unchanged relationship we had before. He needed his best friend.
I looked away. I have to get out of here.
Because-I needed that too. I want the past. I want out friendship back. I want my best friend. And it was so easy to get lost in those dark brown eyes, and it was so easy to succumb to what they wanted.
But I needed to remind myself that what I wanted was more than friendship, more than just a best friend. But he can't give me what I want, and I can't ignorantly stay by his side anymore-acting like it doesn't hurt. So I have to get out of here, before I give into what we both yearn for: each other. "

It's hard to be inlove with your best friend, especially if that friendship is something not worth losing to your own selfish desires. But sometimes you need to be a little selfish when you need to do what's best for yourself.
A typical young adult novel with a slice of life and a few lessons to learn.
