Jason Grey lives in a seemingly average neighborhood. He goes to a seemingly average school, and has seemingly average friends. But it's all a hoax. Parents marry off their children for materialistic objects, friends stab each other in the back (literally), and drugs are sold to anyone at the local convince store. Melanie Jackson is The Girl Next Door. A classic love story between two best friends. But it is not a realistic one. Melanie is destined to marry a prince, and become a princess. Sassy Melanie, who doesn't take anything from anyone, and absolutely refuses to be "married off". But it is not her choice. Rory Swift currently lives in a tree. In the forest. He says he's hiding from the system, but could he really be hiding from something else? Or someone else?

He's trying to mend his broken life, and is offered a fresh start after being expelled from his last school. Jack, on the other hand, is depressed. The meet at a bus stop one day, but are torn apart when Alex has to suddenly run off, without even giving the boys a chance to exchange names.
