Dozens of years ago some phsycho-ball set off a nuclear chain reaction between nuclear power plants, causing an explosion killing and destroying most of Northern U.S.A. More than half of southern U.S.A was saved. My grandparents, and most of the people in the south went into bunkers for the past seventy-something years. Then scientist figured out it was safe to come out as long as people stayed in the most southern sectors. The few countries that had been on good terms with us when it happened used a process called Annihilating RZ to lower the levels of radiation. Whatever it did, it cleared up the radiation dozens of years faster than it originally would. Coming up is the annual Semi-Simulators. To keep the people safe and from stopping another idiot from destroying the rest of our home. Every year all fifteen-year-olds are tested in every category in a simulative game. If your to be one of the five to win? Your sent to be trained for The Simulator.

Charlotte wants nothing to do with Nate or the girl who looks like her dead sister. She does not want to go through the grief of losing people again if something bad was to happen. And something bad does happen when Emmi is kidnapped, and it is no one's fault but Charlotte's. Through this obligation alone, Charlotte feels like it is her responsibility to get Emmi back, to right her wrong. In helping Nate pursue his kidnapped daughter, Charlotte inadvertently allows herself to feel again, to care for those other than herself. A one shot about a romance revolving around a futuristic institute's cultural festival. As it is, even future soldiers have a normal high-school life. The story is set in the future, where children are trained from an early age, by the permission of their parents, (unless of course, they are orphans) to become Knights. They then become part of the military. Nina is such a child, who joined the V_ four years ago. She's infamous for her wild nature and blatant disregard of the rules and the Student Council. And then, by some blighted twist of fate, she finds herself a House Prefect. Enter Azerkin Schwann, suave, cool, mysterious and with a permanent train of fangirls. Unbeknownst to the rest of the world, Nina finds a close friend in the drool-worthy Schwann. Everything is going on perfectly; except for a pack of man-killer cyborg wolves, an insanely powerful rival-in-battle, whose aim in life seems to be throwing challenge after challenge at Nina, and the Senior Troublemaker of the School's latest game :- 'Set fire to a pile of straw'. Well, that's not much, after all, what can a pile of straw do? Nothing, unless there's a stack of fireworks underneath. And that's the least of her worries when Nina's fallen head over heels for Schwann. This is a work of fiction, and the characters introduced are purely fictional. Any resemblance in name or character is unintentional. Just sayin' since this is basically my first story using normal names and settings. The story is currently a one shot. 100 years ago, amidst WW3's nuclear bombing, a deadly virus was released in the atmosphere and nearly wiping out the humanity. It lives inside the human brain thriving on the empathy receptors, leading to irrational behaviour and ultimately brain death. To slow the damage, scientists created L.O.V.E, short for Living Off Vital Emotions, a nanovaccine that numbs the virus and switches off all strong emotions. As a last resort and with a dying planet, the Supreme Government created the City, a place to contain the infected survivors suitable for the experiment. Those in the first stages of illness became ideal candidates to receive the neuroinhibitor. Having their feelings restrained and their memory altered, those who come of age are designated a life partner through a Selection process, thus preserving the humankind. A few decades after the trial had started, scientists had a major breakthrough. The nanites, which are highly chemically reactive organisms, are changing their bio-engineered purpose when dopamine levels are high. With a new generation of nanoids, stronger and smarter to fight the battle, the virus doesn't have a chance. Many attempts were made to create a man-made version of synthetic dopamine and each time the outcome was a disaster. Their goal is to create new generations, immune to the virus. These are called Purebloods, the offsprings of those who find pure love, the only cure to save them from a violent death. Running out of time, the Experiment entered in its final stages. To minimize the threats, the Colonies have sent their best soldiers to oversee the trial and protect its key subjects. If only things were going according to plan, or better...stay hidden. (Book Two of Experiment Number 7218. Do not read this summary or book if you have not read Book One) I listen closely through the static on the radio, trying to hear the emergency broadcasting message. An electronic voice repeated over and over, "This message is transmitted to you through the North Carolina Police Department. It is advised to stay indoors and to remain inside if at all possible. Have enough food for one to two weeks. Do not come in contact with anyone outside of your household. This message is transmitted to you through the North Carolina Police Department." I scoff to myself. I know this will not be over in a mere two weeks. - - - - - Terminar; The Latin word for Terminate. Definition: To bring to an end. Brittany Slater was free. She had finally escaped the island that she now calls Hell. But there were so many loose ends. Why had her father destroyed all of his research? His factory? His life's work? Why had he given her a chance to live? Well, she got her answer. Upon arriving to North Carolina, she was thrown right back into Hell on Earth. Grounders, Savages, what were once innocent people, they now all roam free. Her father told her the Experiment was over, and he was right. It was time for the Project to begin. To take effect. And no one could stop him. He'd turned the world into a pyramid, and he put himself and his own government on top. He'd activated Project Terminar. Technobabble
During the filming of "Star Trek: The Next Generation", there would frequently come times when the story called for the characters (and in the early days, it was often that bane of Trekkies everywhere, Wesley Crusher, the Platonic Ideal of Dork) to fix some far-future technical problem. Which means said characters had to employ far-future tech. Which by definition hasn't been invented yet. What happened over the course of the series was that they engaged a couple of people to be in charge of continuity and technology, and the script writers would insert into the scripts, "[technobabble here]", leaving the staff TechGeek to insert the proper futuristic-sounding tech gibberish. You know: Stuff that sounds realistically scientific, but is really just verbal handwaving. "Tachyon fields"; "Inertial dampers"; and so on. Welcome to my non-fictional, non-Star Trek, highly-idiosyncratic take on tech, tech-related topics, and sometimes random stuff that's just obliquely related to tech that was triggered by me reading or hearing or seeing something that happened to drift through the wide-open transom of my brain and get stuck there. Some of the items you will see here are funny, some I hope are thought-provoking, some could probably be filed under the hashtag of #DougRant, filtered through what my life-partner calls my "weird perspective". When you're marked you have two choices; fight or die. Nance lives in the past, literally. Her city is a recreation of early twenty-first century society. To the outside world they're experiments, just rats running around a maze. In an impoverished future world, the city seems to be their only chance of finding where they went wrong, or so they say. Nance doesn't know the real purpose of her home, and she doesn't care. All she sees are the one hundred teenagers, just like her, who are killed every year in the barbaric ritual known as the marking. They tattoo your face and pit you against your peers, against the city. Nance doesn't know why, but it doesn't matter, because she's sixteen and it's her turn to be marked. **So I decided to replace the original story with the rewrite because they are pretty much exactly the same. The year is 2096. Computers, and other recognition software with them, have grown infinitely more powerful since the 2010s. Business is thriving. People are running about, living their lives, and generally enjoying themselves with their new 'smart' devices, which, for better or for worse, are actually living up to their name. Finally. Enter outcast Vincent Schorennherr. Her parents [emphasis on her] parents wanted a boy, no luck on that account, and they let her know that every day. You think that's not so bad? Think again. "Sorry, Vincent, but you're going to school anyways, flu or no flu." Well, just before first period, a 'conveniently'-timed password-entry prompt pops on on her phone screen, right as she: 1) Presses the sensor, and 2): sneezes, spreading rhinoviruses all over herself and her phone. She wipes the phone off and goes to class,thinking nothing more of the incident until the next day, when she goes to turn it on and gets a kill screen: "Fatal Error 81-141. The flu's contagious, didn't you know that? Bye now, gone to play Caesar- Veni, vidi, vici and all that." With that, her phone blinks off, and within hours, other phones begin to follow suit. With panic on the rise, and global tensions rapidly following suit, can Vincent and her friends find the cure before it's hard shutdown? **NaNoWriMo 2017** Complete in the sense that I'll probably never write any more of this story.
