Takeshi Ryuta was just a student that was in the same class as Light Yagami.

That was until he picked up a Death Note...
After killing a bunch of people through brutal accidents, he began to run out of entertaining things to do and decided that he was going to give his Death Note to someone else.

After losing his ownership of it, his Shinigami took it from him and threw it from the top of the school then waited to see who picked it up.

It was Light Yagami.
