There is a man that lives without fear. That was unheard of, especially when these monsters invaded earth. These monsters were blind, in a sense. But they could "see" you, by the scent of your fear. These monsters can literally smell your fear. So, a guy without fear is amazing in these times. The man now leads an army of men, women and teenagers, all who have left their fear behind. Everyone expects great things from this man and those around him. So it ultimately sucks to be his son.

While hundreds and hundreds of years passed, the monsters kept evolving and the people kept adapting while still trying to keep a sort of community. They didn't want to lose all of their humanity and become nothing more than animals that hunted the monsters: then they would truly be no better than the monsters themselves.
