Annelise Emilia Marie Lovelace. As if such an elegant and mighty name could define a person, as if it could bestow upon them beauty, grace, strength, and power. Just call me Elise. Within me doesn't lie the cleverness that was abundant within my father, nor the cruelty with which he has dealt with those who dare to oppress him. I cannot and refuse to rule alongside the deception my father has, nor with the cavity sweetness exterior my mother has shown to the world. While my father and mother carried out their duties systematically and with cold calculation, I was far too instinctual and passionate. But it doesn't matter anyways. Although I am the oldest and rightful heir to the throne, my parents would rather cut off their right hand than allow me to diminish all they've labored on for the years they have ruled. I have suffered too long under their tyranny, and I absolutely refuse to be married off to a stranger and again be confined to the cold and loneliness of the castle. I am no longer blinded by fury or jealousy regarding the fact my younger brother is to take the throne, but my plan was to travel the country and live life. The wishes of my parents were not factored into my plan, as they have regarded me with disappointment and scrutiny all the seventeen years of my life. Annelise Emilia Marie Lovelace may not be quite the best in much of anything, but within her lies a passion and fight that cannot be suppressed by any means.

Annalise is everything a young eligible single noblewoman should be. Incomparably Beautiful, nicely titled and generously wealthy. In an attempt to salvage and regain the wealth that is so rapidly depleting, her uncle decides to throw every eligible, rich and titled gentleman her way, no matter how despicable and snobbish - but Annalise knows that it is only the half-truth. He wants to get her out of the way, so he can govern her Duchy the way he has always wanted, and bleed it dry. She does not know how or even if she can accomplish what she set out for, nor does she know why she trusts the handsome and mysterious stranger who offers her an olive branch -- and a solution to every problem she is currently facing; a sanctuary from her snobbish, vain and selfish family, the welfare of her people.
