Seventy-four years has been long enough. The way of the infamous Hunger Games has been altered. No longer is every Gamemaker out to devise the worst means of torture and death for every tribute. No longer are the people of Panem outwardly tolerant of President Snow's murderous actions. Under the facade of a normal group of Gamemakers, several rebellious citizens have begun an experiment which, if it succeeds, will make use of technology both to rescue the tributes before they are dead and then deposit the brainwashed children back in time. They have to try it. No one knows what horrors future Hunger Games may bring, and the desperate rebels are willing to try anything. Meanwhile, in the mountainous regions of District 2, Cato Hadley and Clove Kentwell have trained their whole lives for the Games. Nevertheless, their ambitions change when they, without meaning to, find themselves in the Games together. They are both determined to win. But if they don't, what will happen to them? The brainwashed tributes who land in New York City know nothing of who they are or where they are from. They do not remember Panem, or the Games, or even their own names. This is a science fiction story based off the Hunger Games and its characters. Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Hunger Games! This story is based around a plot twist I created, but all rights go to Suzanne Collins, the author of the original series. Disclaimer no. 2: this was a first draft written by a very awkward fifteen-year-old me; please treat it as such. Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! A dystopian young adult novel involving romance, secret experiments on human subjects, and a group of teenagers' will to survive. Reader Comments: "I'm gonna gush about your book real quick...all the technology has a purpose and is beautifully explained so I can picture it in my mind...the whole concept of the book is completely original...*moment of silence for your beautiful arch of character development* everything your characters do is strictly them but they develop enough to show more about themselves without you straight up telling the reader about them" -Vairl9023 "Ahh!!! This is so good!! I will be anxiously awaiting the next Chapter!!" -CrystalBagot "Brilliant...ohh, this is very catchy, good work" -IndeeMaynard "I love this so far" -BrianneMorris "You've done a great job at creating a mysterious mood" -poisonedpen *** All Evita Creedy, 17, wants is to finish her degree and be accepted for a prestigious job with the city's Department of Energy. On the way to take her placement test she sees a man take a gun out of his bag. Panicked, she reaches into her purse for her phone to call 911. Instead she takes out a gun. She doesn't know where it came from or how it got there, but when the man turns his gun on her she shoots him. It would be easy for Evita to forget about where the gun came from and let her life return to normal, but its mysterious appearance won't stop nagging at her. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.

The Island

44 parts Complete

"This is The Island, a prison designed for minors like me- too young to be executed, too old to be reformed, and too much of a stain on humanity to let exist. It was 'the answer' to the growing crime rate resulting from a world that was falling apart. The details evade me, but there is one thing I know. The water doesn't seem as scary as it did before." When Jordyn wakes up in the middle of a tropical forest in the mouth of a cat too big to be real, she decides this isn't how she wants to die. The Island has other plans, though. It was designed to kill her, and it will bring out every gun in the arsenal to do so. Her life becomes a game of survival from the mutant and venomous animals, severe temperature changes, and impossible weather scenarios that exist in this government manufactured prison. The twist? She has no idea who she is, where she came from, or why she committed first-degree arson. In this mixture of "The Hunger Games" and "Maze Runner", Jordyn has to unravel the truth before nature kills her- or die not knowing.
