Along with the alien, a beacon was left on Earth which when activated, opens a portal through which the aliens will return. The extraterrestrials visit Earth to usurp Qi, Earth's vital energy. The story takes place in a small town surrounded by forest near the Oregon-California border. Of course it does, after all, the highest concentration of Qi is found in forests where ancient redwoods grow. You might be wondering, what is Qi? In Japan it is called "ki," and in India, "prana"." The ancient Egyptians referred to it as "ka," and the ancient Greeks as "pneuma." In Africa, it's known as "ashe" and in Hawaii as "mana." Qi, Prana, Ki, call it what you will, this energy is the life force itself.

Their leader, a destructive insomniac, promises to help him in return for the skills and usefulness this young boy seems to possess, but something disrupting sends waves of unease through the Raiders, something about a forgotten past and talk of a mutiny.
