Clarence Marlow has never dealt with such a curious case before. As second-in-command at Scotland Yard, it's up to him to solve the case of the mysterious Jack the Ripper, as the papers so eloquently named the serial killer terrorizing the citizens of London. With the help of Bernard Hastings, the kindhearted chief of police, Mary Jane Kelly, a quick-witted resident of Whitechapel, Newt Reuben, the resourceful orphan, and Florica Herne, a beautiful performing gypsy, the case may be cracked. But will Jack the Ripper be undone in time? You, the reader, must collect clues for yourself in this thrilling new tale spun by X herself. Can you solve the case before time runs out?

A warning from X: This story is not marked Mature, but you must be aware that there are a few *questionable* scenes that you cannot skip if you want to understand the story. If you don't want to read these particular parts of the story, it is not for you and X will not be offended if you scroll past this and never read it.

And an additional side note: X has tried to stay true to the facts, researching killing methods, places, and victims of Jack the Ripper, but most of these happenings are purely fictional. She reserves the right to blend truth with-- well, lies.

For the small town of Ravensby, it's just the start of a living nightmare - one in which nobody is spared from the murderous cross hairs, and which will drive Detective Inspector Kubič to the edge of his own sanity... Genre: suspense/thriller Status: completed Length: 70,000 words (approx. 275 standard novel pages) Target readership: Though aimed primarily at adults, the novel features several teenage characters and so may also appeal to a younger audience Extract: "Warn you sir, not a pretty sight in there." Kubič took a deep, preparatory breath, his footsteps slow and leaden as he moved towards the kitchen door. Not for the first time over the years, he found himself wishing he'd chosen an entirely different sort of career. Paper-pushing, something out of doors. Anything at all. He'd always been reasonable enough at woodwork back at school, he recalled. Why hadn't he done that, he thought? Become a cabinet maker or some damn thing. A reluctant hand pushed open the door... "Oh dear Christ." The words escaped his mouth forcefully, involuntarily, like blood gushing from an open wound

Water's Edge

56 parts Complete Mature

H J Fields is a Bow Street Runner, a private investigator loathed by public and policeman alike. Straddling the thin blue line, he believes that even if the barrel turns all the apples bad, there must be law somewhere. His first case after getting a new office in Askrinstough, a city built on flooded Grimsby, Immingham. He needs money, and fast, and when Mrs. Wharton, wife of Barnaby, the MP for Beverly & Holderness, turns up with stories of her son going missing around the Humber Dam construction site, this seems like easy money for our P.I. But when he arrives in Thorngumbald, he finds more than just a kid lost to the estuary. Saxon cultists, environmental terrorists, and Tory MPs: and there are sure as hell more than one body in those waters. This case is going to take longer than he'd like. At least the pay is worth it. Water's Edge is the first H J Fields mystery, a Brexlit crime story, set in a world after the United Kingdom dissolves into four independent nations. Unionists bomb the border to Scotland. The Conservatives have been in power for 1X years. And Runners like Fields may have quit the force, for all it's corruption, but crimes still need solving, right?
