"What's your name?" My eyes widened instinctively at his first words to me in a week. I pivoted slowly, my head slightly tilted. My predatory gaze met eyes glazed with internal turmoil. I shifted my gaze to his hair. Even greasy and sticking out at laughable angles, his tawny curls were still evident. I swept my eyes down the rest of his body until I reached his toes, evaluating him with scrutiny.
Finally, I reestablished our previous eye connection. His eyes were focused intently on my own, but I could tell they longed to wander other places. It seemed we had reached an impasse, neither of us willing to look away.
After a drawn out moment of charged silence, I responded.
"Don't you know, names are powerful in Hell? Knowing ones name gives you power over them. And you, pet, you don't get to hold the reins."
