"The Mainland" is an intimate narrative that explores a mother-daughter relationship; they are stranded on an island after an apocalypse had demolished their home. It is evident that the narrative thus focuses on the events that transpire during the journey of getting to the idealistic "Mainland". Comparatively, the chosen inspiration text is The Road by Cormac McCarthy because both narratives stem from the minds of two personas experiencing the consequences of appreciating civilisation, due to the dystopian circumstance they are engulfed in.

A Ride To Remember

THEY ARE DIFFERENT PEOPLE. Please, please, please do not leave me comments conflating the two. For reference in case you are not aware: Original Cale Henituse is the person who had the body BEFORE Kim Roksoo transmigrated. He's the one who earned himself a reputation as a lout/trash. ORIGINAL Cale Henituse lived until forty years old, died as a soldier, age-regressed and switched places with Kim Roksoo. He has a different personality, priorities, and motivations than Kim Roksoo. This takes place in an alternate universe where there is no White Star so Cale Barrow would have never stolen Kim Roksoo's body THEREFORE Kim Roksoo EXISTS as a DIFFERENT PERSON in the ws body. So far as is canonically established: og Cale is never a commander, never becomes sworn brothers with Alberu, never adopts any of the children that Kim Roksoo adopted. He's not Eruhaben's unlucky bastard and if he were to meet the elderly dragon, he'd have a different impression of him because they are different people.Concluída
an unfortunate change in genre
a regresser and a transmigrating reincarnator face the horrors of a romance novel together Put less succinctly, in one of the many parallel worlds that mirror one another in the upsettingly complicated universe there was a different book by Nelan Barrow. The shifted events that fall like dominos create a significantly divergent plot with some remaining core elements. Due to this differing but mirroring circumstances, Cale Henituse is offered the opportunity to regress rather than transmigrate. He just wasn't anticipating having a new brother upon doing so. This is a story with a primary focus on familial relationships with two romantic subplots alongside. Instead of transmigrating as Kim Rok Soo, Cale Henituse was sent back in time after he was reincarnated as Kim Rok Soo. But what he didn't expect, with the regression and soul merging, he was sent back after he was beaten up by Choi Han(which happened earlier than before), but the after effects were much worse than he imagined. aka: an OG! Cale harem (because he deserves all the love) with the fictional version of narcolepsy and sleep apnea. (note: I do not have medical experience or knowledge about this, that's why I made a fictional version lol)

That is until she crosses paths with Nate and his daughter, Emmi. Emmi is not and cannot be vaccinated against the disease, so the only way to protect her and give her some kind of life is to reunite her with her estranged mother in a quarantine zone on the other side of the country. Charlotte wants nothing to do with Nate or the girl who looks like her dead sister. She does not want to go through the grief of losing people again if something bad was to happen. And something bad does happen when Emmi is kidnapped, and it is no one's fault but Charlotte's. Through this obligation alone, Charlotte feels like it is her responsibility to get Emmi back, to right her wrong. In helping Nate pursue his kidnapped daughter, Charlotte inadvertently allows herself to feel again, to care for those other than herself. But with the clock ticking, Charlotte's new found family may just end up like her own, dead and destroyed, if Emmi is exposed to the disease that her father tried so hard to protect her from.Concluída

I love the beginnings of stories. Whether it be a book or a movie, I enjoy the opening scenes the most. Because they hold all the promises of what is to come; unburdened by commitment or baggage. Beginnings are full of hope. This story is an exception. Because the beginning of it is a sad one. It's the ending, however, that makes this story worthwhile. It's been several years since these events occurred and I have spent the majority of that time contemplating how best to share this story. Why? Because stories are important and everyone has one.
