Valentina befriends Mitch Hughes, after bumping into him on the busy streets of Montreal. They become great friends and Valentina feels like Mitch is hiding something from her. She decides to ask him about it, but he tells her it's nothing, when really, it's something. Something big; he doesn't tell her, in fear that she'll treat him differently.

The ambulance comes rushing to his house and Valentina goes to the hospital and waits until he wakes up. He can't hide it from her anymore. He knows he can't.

Mitch is told by the doctors that he is supposedly going to die before summertime. He informs Valentina on this and Valentina doesn't want to lose Mitch. She loves him, more than she ever thought that she could. He loves her too, but they don't confess until one night; his birthday...
