Ty, having lived through a plague that killed all the females on his planet, finds refuge in his work, mining a mineral instrumental to all aspect of life on Aztara, including telepathy, longevity and levitation. In their attempt to rebuild the Aztarian population, they import Earth women who carry a specific gene, the warrior gene, to mate with the Aztarian men.
