You bite your lip and look down at your hand. You scratch at the table, and you're desperately trying to keep your emotions under control. "Yeah, I loved you, too."
"Loved, past tense," he mumbles, his eyes flicking everywhere around him. "A verb meaning that you once loved me, but here, in the present time, you do not." He leans back in his chair and folds his hands together on his stomach.
"I can't love a murderer."

You loved him. You loved him more than anything else, but he was getting further away with every second. He was already too far gone to help. Can you stay with him despite all of this?
