Gabriel and Raphael are dead, and Michael and Lucifer are trapped in Hell's cage. But it's the archangels job to protect the prophet, so what happens when Crowley wraps his hands around Kevin's throat and slides him up the wall? Gabriel is resurrected in order to save Kevin, far behind on the current affairs of the world.
