Sixteen year old artist Harper Kennedy thought she wanted nothing more than to stay as far away from the place of her parents' death as possible. But when she arrives in Draanen, Florida to live with her aunt and two cousins, she begins to rethink her split-second decision, exposed almost immediately to her aunt's over-excitable ways and the terrors of taking care of her rambunctious five year old cousin, as well as dealing with her older one. But these aren't the only troubles she'll encounter during her first summer as a Floridian. Harper is soon introduced to Wes Bentley who, as an aspiring artist himself, tries tirelessly to convince her to join him in creating a line of art pieces to enter in the local gallery's competition. But when a jealous ex-girlfriend, a handful of painful secrets, and some trouble on the night of the gallery come into play, Harper's summer becomes a hell of a lot more complicated. Especially when, just as Harper has convinced herself that Draanen might be the one place where she belongs, yet another sudden twist throws her beloved, new life in Florida on the line. Hopefully Harper will be able to survive her first summer in a new town... and maybe even pass with flying colors.
