"I'm not John Watson," I remember him saying on the first actual date we had, which was, naturally, not in a public place, but at his flat over a romantic dinner and a proper cup of tea.
"Sorry?" I panicked, thinking I must've accidentally called him John Watson, though I hadn't.
"I just want you to know that I'm not John Watson and I'm not Bilbo Baggins, and I'm definitely not Tim Canterbury."
"As long as you're not Lester Nygaard, I'm good," I joked, but he didn't laugh.
"Listen, Winter. This is important. People come to me thinking I'm this nice Dr. Watson sort. I'm not. I'm really not. I'm my own person. I'm not like the characters you've seen me play."
