Tales From the GMATY: The Soul Eater Division 1. Soul Eater
The Soul Eater Division is the story of Detective Soul Eater, a Death Scythe who is yet unable to transform into a Scythe. She's the leader of her team, Cobra, Juggernaut, Blue Star, and Hex.
She and all of her team mates were once disciples at the GMATY, an academy created by the Grim Reaper, Dr. Death, to keep Demons from escaping into the Human World and wreak havoc. People are not picked at random to attend the academy--they have to have special blood, called deshi blood. The disciples attend the academy for ten years, from six to sixteen, and from there they can choose to become a police officer, a detective on a team of five, join the military, or the special forces.
Soul Eater is a Death Scythe. Death Scythes have the ability to, after devouring a certain number of Demon and witch souls to transform into a Scythe and be wielded by someone who they can match their soul wavelengths with. There are only 13 Death Scythes, and only five of them have mastered the ability to become a weapon, including Soul's father, Vim.
Soul's goal in life is to surpass God, and become an unstoppable Death Scythe.
Dr. Death assigns Soul and her team to find a Hybrid--a human who has strayed from the pure soul to eat the souls of humans and transform into a Demon--and it comes to their attention that the Hybrid is being created by a powerful witch named Abelinda. Soul Eater and her team, along with Death's fifteen year old son, Grim the Kid, set out for Story, Wyoming where Abelinda and the Hybrid are hiding out.
There they discover that Abelinda turned her own son, Yasha, into a Hybrid, and a raging battle ensues. Abelinda and Yasha escape, and Soul and her team are forced to return back to the GMATY empty-handed.
But Abelinda is planning something sinister, and there is something in Soul that Grim sees...that may not be a good thing.
