This is a story about life, finding oneself in unfamiliar territory, losing those we love, staying together with those we love, growing up, hardship, and above all else, finding a way through. Stay strong, dear reader, there may be rough water ahead. **** It is important to note that there is disturbing content in this story. I am not a woman, and I do not presume to know all the hardships a woman may face. I do not intend this story to take away from real stories, nor do I intend to make myself seem somehow righteous in telling of the hardships of others, even in a fictional sense. I only wish to acknowledge the cruelty in this world, and the reality of the suffering of those who suffer, who are hurt, who are victims.

"Who are you?" I asked wearily. "Elizabella Anne Kwiatkowski, you can call me Eliza. But I'm more interested in how you got here, Landon..." my eyebrows furrowed as I stared deeply at her. "How do you know my name?" "I don't know, you ask me." She put her hand on the desk drawer next to me, studying me like a hawk. "Well... where am I?" I stood up, "You should sit down. Your body is still healing from the trauma." "What trauma?" Bet you think this is another typical story about the sea and land, welp..... I guess you can say that. One normal day. One a beach. With 3 strangers. What could happen?

It truly is amazing how quickly your life can get flipped upside down. Actually, I take that back. In my case, it was more like my life was flipped upside down, turned inside out, spun around in circles, and blown up. I wish I was kidding. One minute I was an ambitious fifteen-year-old, working part time at the Marine Research Institute, and the next, BAM! I was preparing to risk everything to help a specimen I caught in the first place escape from the facility. And it wasn't any ordinary specimen like plankton or bioluminescent fish, either. It was a mermaid. **some cursing**

Somethings lurking far out in the waters are best left alone, though sometimes one gets a bit curious of what might be just below the waters surface and if you are that person make sure you know it might be a one way trip because you might not make it back to shore alive...

When I was little, I was never healthy for a full day. When I would go to school, I would carry around an oxygen tank so that I could breathe properly. There was once where I had come close to death. At that time, my mother and father promised me that they wouldn't ever leave me. That is, until someone came in an murdered them while I was at school. When I was dropped off from the bus stop, I automatically knew something was wrong because my mother would always wait for me. When she wasn't there, I began to get worried. 'Had she forgotten?' Was the first thing I thought as I walked up the stairs and into my house. 'Mama? Papa?' I questioned walking into their room. As I made the first step in, I heard squishing under my feet as if the carpet was wet.

My life has always been terrible. I was always bullied at school. I don't know why, it just seemed that people didn't like my presence. The guys would beat me up and I'd get in trouble when I defended myself, for the teachers never saw what they did. The girls would trick me, making me think they liked me and laughing at me because of it. I was always in the principle's office for one reason or another, but I wasn't a bad student. I actually got really good grades. To make matters worse, my mother wanted nothing to do with me. She'd lock me in the basement, sometimes for days, with no food or warmth. My father would then sneak down and beat me before raping me. So, naturally, I wanted to die. But, for some reason, I can't die. No matter what I do, I can't stay dead. The thing I want more than anything is far out of my reach. Why can't I just die? Warning: mention of rape, suicide, and abuse. Also, this is a boy's love story.

I was drowning. I knew that. I also knew that the hands around my throat, pushing me deeper into the river water was the cause. What I didn't know was who was drowning me and why. It hurt thinking. It hurt to do anything right now. But I still screamed under the cold water and pushed the hands away as hard as I could. It didn't have much effect. I fought and fought, but I was getting weaker, and colder. The pain was overbearing. I couldn't breathe. It was the worst pain imaginable; and as the hands that were around my neck were forcibly ripped off by some unknown force, I slipped deeper into the depths of the river. My hair was straight above me along with my arms. My eyes were open and the water burned. A darkness started to pull me under, taking the pain away. I felt a small pressure around my waist, before the darkness completely consumed me. The last thing I remember is thinking, save me.

When ten friends are trapped on a remote mountain retreat and things quickly turn sinister, they start to suspect they aren't alone. Gripped by fear and with tensions in the group running high, they'll be forced to make snap decisions that could mean life, or death, for everyone involved.
