Evaina Lauren Gates had watched as her house burned to the ground, with her frightened sister in her arms. Her parents had never made it out of that house, her mothers unborn child did not either. After that night, Evaina became a different person.

Detached, secluding herself from everyone else, into a state of depression. Evaina produced tough exterior, forbidding herself to feel anything. Now, six years later, she remains to appear emotionless. Living with their aunt Jocelyn hadn't been the best years of Evaina and her sister Camellia's lives, they hated it.

Jocelyn was a drunk, sparing her time off work drinking. Usually, Jocelyn wouldn't even come home, but at a bar or club of some sort. Evaina gradually became a parent to her nine year old sister, taking on responsibilities that no teenager should be able to balance. The only thing that Evaina actually enjoyed in life other than her sister, was books.

Every night, when Camellia was asleep, Evaina would sneak to a rundown bookstore downtown that had been out of business. Except she didn't quite make it to her destination one night, and was spotted by a group of men. They had cornered her, with the alleyway deserted, she didn't have to ask to know what they were going to do or what they wanted.

Someone had saved her, Evaina didn't know who, but it didn't matter. What happens now if the same guy who had rescued her ends up becoming a major part of her life? Evaina never believed in fairytales, but would it be so bad if she started to?
