Synopsis
Duty, responsibility, sacrifice and peace. These are it, the four words that guide our way of life and without them, I don't know what we would be. There is a fine line between us and the weak ones, humans. Although our kind look at them with pity, I look at them as truly being free, not only being able to feel anger and love but being freely able to choose what to do with it. Choice, I think that is what we all secretly want but can never have because of what we are. Winged creatures who watch the lives of humans but are unable to tamper or be apart of. But only members of the court and royalty know of humans for the rest of our kind believe humans to be myths.
I was living somewhat of a luxurious life, a princess with a loving father, the king, and older brother, Zachiah. Now I'm being told that the binding ceremony has been moved up, so now instead of kissing away my freedom at 23 I am doing it now at 19, in 4 days. As I sit on the chair and prepare for who I am to fade away into oblivion and for me to be forever linked by body, mind and soul to a complete stranger, known as a guardian who is deemed most compatible with me, I feel this strange sense of calmness. Is it him? Alexius, is he the one who will be linked to me forever, the one who will protect me forever? He has never even looked at me, almost like he is constantly avoiding me, like he knows something I don't. I am told that once the guardian is picked only I and them will know, of course, after the binding rites ceremony that completely link us for eternity, yeah we live pretty long, we will be inseparable. But how can I be linked to someone forever that I don't know or trust? And even if I lie and say I don't know who the guardian is after the binding ceremony I won't be able to do that at the binding rites ceremony or the both of us will feel excruciating pain.
