Totally against the laws of magic.  So he has to skip his date and run around Memphis trying to prevent the spell from going off.  Outnumbered but not out-magiced, he has to enlist the help of his Battle Mage Sister in Law when the witches kill the Memphis Seer.  It's one thing to be the fastest finger East of the Mississippi, it's another when your casting goes off and makes the rite go wrong releasing thirteen witches and their pet demons on an unsuspecting America.
