"Hey newbie," I turned to him, his tone wasn't cocky this time, it was a different tone, not the very serious Blood King tone, neither the angry tone he always gives me. This tone was casual.
"What?"
"Why were you there last night?" I knew he was going to ask me that. I can't answer him because I don't know the answer to that as well. "Why'd you save me?" Kale looked at me this time, expecting an answer. His face was blank, but I know he was curious, anxious to be precise.
"Sawyer." I trailed off. "I'd put my life on the line just to save you. I would have done it for anyone, despite their genders." I sighed. "And Sawyer, I can't let those arrogant jocks beat the shit out of you." I gave him a half-smile.
"Why's that?"
"Because beating you up is my job." I grinned at him. He scowled at me but then grinned as well.
