This year was supposed to be simple: survive the rest of high school, save up as much money as possible, move back to California and become roommates with Stacey. That was the plan, it was all set from the moment she landed in New York. When I slammed my locker shut and turned to see Toby standing there, watching me, I jumped in fright and dropped my bag. Talk about speaking of the devil. I picked it up quickly before he could and said a rushed "hi" before turning to leave. But Toby pulled me back to him making my flustered countenance change and I was suddenly defensive. I pulled away and made a face. "Do you need something or something?" I questioned him. "Relax," he said. "Are you in a hurry?". He sounded so sweet. And why was he looking down at me so innocently? "I'm not", I said with a shake of the head. He seemed very polite so I instantly felt bad for being rude. "What's up?". "You're Harvey, right? Harvey Celestine?". I nodded. "You're Maria's friend". "To the point, Meyers". I was quickly becoming bored. Toby looked surprised for a moment, although I didn't know why. But then, he smiled a little. "You left your geography note and textbook in class and that wouldn't do considering the fact that we have a geography test tomorrow". I immediately switched up and started thanking him profusely. All my sticky notes and reminders were in there. He smiled and waved it off before turning to leave. When I got home, Maria gave me a phone call, squealing like a child.
