This is a series of short, episodic pieces set in a version of our world's 1930s, written for a weekly short story contest. I picture Golden Age comic books and radio serials with ridiculous plots, fantastic monsters, and a rising German threat because everybody loves to hate Nazis. Basically, I'm going for Indiana Jones if he was a thick-jawed, overconfident moron.

No Superheroes Allowed
Long ago a group of superheroes and villains worked together to prevent an invasion. But they managed to kill more people than they saved. Their destruction caused the perception of those with powers to dramatically shift; to the point of outcast. 50 years later crime has increased to the point where not even the police respond to calls. Few heroes went into hiding to 'play normal'; like my family and I. I live in New Haven City. I've been lucky enough that I don't have powers that attract too much attention --- Everything was going great. Everything was normal. Until Jamie was forced to confront the reality of her situation. The mayor who has been running the NSA was beginning to take drastic measures. Sending many supers off to another island. Stealing their powers. Forcing others to betray their own kind. The victims of these horrific acts are not taking that lightly. Why not make a team of heroes? A team that doesnt give a shit what the NSA or the Mayor has to say. A team of young teens who probably don't even listen to each other. That will save the world...Complete

Drome isn't paranoid. The entire world really is out to get him. And that world isn't even Earth. It's a weird hollow world that his whole village ends up in through a thaumaturgic accident. And to make matters worse, as soon as they arrive he's taken hostage. If the creatures who abducted him, and took him to the Imperial Palace, don't kill him first, there's a queue of hostiles, sharpening their knives, right behind them. Luckily Drome escapes with the help of a living skeleton, but that relationship is more than a little strained by Drome's unerring ability to annoy everyone he meets. Getting back to his village won't be easy, seeing as he's not even sure where it is. But he needs to return quickly and warn them of the homicidal imperial troops on their way to wipe out every person in it. That's if someone else doesn't kill him first.Complete

Now, not only does he have to deal with school, his almost non existent social life and his aggravating younger brother, but he also has to fight super villains and learn to control his new found powers to avoid blowing his cover to the world...and it is a lot harder than he anticipated. Prepare for a roller coaster ride of lame one liners and painfully awkward adolescent behaviour, along with bromances and romances, breakups and make ups, and even some cliché superhero behaviour, villains who hold a grudge, and really dorky super suits. In the 22nd century, There are some mysteries that the world holds which would be better off left in the dark. Every day, something comes ever closer from the shadows, ready to destroy everything you hold dear and more. One such secret are the Nephilim. The Nephilim are genetically modified humans capable of shapeshifting, rapid healing, and, most importantly, rapid adaptation. Most of the Nephilim are, however, extremely dangerous, losing their humanity in the process, and become monsters that must be contained. One day, A Nephilim breaks free and escapes the facility it was housed in, leaving death and destruction in its wake. After breaking free, the Nephilim meets a young woman who is not of this world, a woman who attempts to befriend him. Will the Nephilim go on to become a monster, a beast who will usher in the end of humankind, or will it learn to love once again, and become something... "Close to Human" UPDATE! So after re-reading my story, I've noticed a few things I could do better, and thus, I unpublished it. I'm going to try and rewrite the story, and maybe add a few changes such as characters, events, and some other things that may need fixing. That's what I like to call it. The fault to my genetic code. More often than not, it's a curse. The static running through my blood gave me a name. A cruel, daunting label of a measly bug. A roach. That's what I am to them, to the government. Roach; the nameless monster with electricity for a sense and lightening as a second nature. It ruined my life, the sparking currents playing tag in my mind, running around and bumping into everything, shaking me loose. The government, actually. They ruined my life. My curse just gave them a reason. You see, the normal population with ordinary DNA, they don't know about the people like me. The roaches of the world. We don't get that kind of recognition at the camps. There, we are only one thing in the military's eyes. We are weapons and we will act like it. Everyone else out there, bathing in the goodness they don't know they've got, they don't know about the roaches their stepping on. As long as their getting closer to the sky, they don't care what they stand on to reach it. They don't know about the sparkling dreamer that's killed 7 people before her 17th birthday. They don't about the ghost of a girl peaking around corners for her entire life because even home wasn't safe. They don't know about the fighter of steel and iron sucking on his bloody lip courtesy of the wars he battles in as nothing but a shadow. They don't know about the masked villain who would do anything to see the army they lead claim the throne They don't know about us. But they will, because we will rise.
