This is a series of short, episodic pieces set in a version of our world's 1930s, written for a weekly short story contest. I picture Golden Age comic books and radio serials with ridiculous plots, fantastic monsters, and a rising German threat because everybody loves to hate Nazis. Basically, I'm going for Indiana Jones if he was a thick-jawed, overconfident moron.

"Who are you?" the supervillain asks. His breathless voice is surprisingly soft. I slam my hands on either side of him, leaning in so close my nose touches his mask. I'm the taller one. "It's 'Please Don't Kick My Sorry Butt,' but you can call me 'Too late, I Already Did.' " And I have to admit, that one I'm a little too proud of. ***Hey, hey! As teen reporter and self-proclaimed defender of truth, justice, and the American way, Monet Jackson vows to do anything to find the heroes. And that "anything," unfortunately, includes taking a dip in a vat of toxic chemicals, being fired, and being hunted by Masquerade himself. Heroes at Heart
"I've tried telling them I'm only fifteen. That no sane government would force a boy my age to fight crime. 'But Max, you're a superhero! Isn't this what you want?' Actually, no. I just kind of want to get through high school. Then we'll talk about this 'superhero' business." Max Owens is your average high school sophomore. Well, he tries to be, at least. At fifteen, he's got more important things to do than fight the infamous Vinicus Cauldwell. With his single mother having recently lost her job, Max is determined to help his family get back up on its feet. The publicity and pressure that comes with being a superhero would be too much to handle right now. But it's hard to fly under the radar, when you can literally fly. Meanwhile, Vinicus Cauldwell enjoys the power he has as Murkbourne's most feared super-villain. For once, he can sit back and relax without being pestered by the police. That is, until Max arrives. Vinicus isn't happy about having to fight a child, but he can't let Max find out. After all, super-villains can't be "good people"... Can they? We can't all be born heroes. These are questions I commonly get, and I get it, I'm a decent-looking guy who's got a fancy job as a Detective. But in my defense... IT'S NOT THAT EASY TO GET A GIRL!! At least that was what I used to say until I somehow ended up dating an actress. Though that sounds like a dream come true I'm afraid she'll dump me soon since.... her Ex is a superhero and well... we all know what happens with guys like me... I know what you're thinking and no, he didn't pee himself. He had developed super powers. At first, he was in denial, but inevitably came to the understanding that he is now a Super, and if he has powers, he might as well use them for something other than picking up hot chicks. Now, not only does he have to deal with school, his almost non existent social life and his aggravating younger brother, but he also has to fight super villains and learn to control his new found powers to avoid blowing his cover to the world...and it is a lot harder than he anticipated. Prepare for a roller coaster ride of lame one liners and painfully awkward adolescent behaviour, along with bromances and romances, breakups and make ups, and even some cliché superhero behaviour, villains who hold a grudge, and really dorky super suits. In the 22nd century, There are some mysteries that the world holds which would be better off left in the dark. Every day, something comes ever closer from the shadows, ready to destroy everything you hold dear and more. One such secret are the Nephilim. The Nephilim are genetically modified humans capable of shapeshifting, rapid healing, and, most importantly, rapid adaptation. Most of the Nephilim are, however, extremely dangerous, losing their humanity in the process, and become monsters that must be contained. One day, A Nephilim breaks free and escapes the facility it was housed in, leaving death and destruction in its wake. After breaking free, the Nephilim meets a young woman who is not of this world, a woman who attempts to befriend him. Will the Nephilim go on to become a monster, a beast who will usher in the end of humankind, or will it learn to love once again, and become something... "Close to Human" UPDATE! So after re-reading my story, I've noticed a few things I could do better, and thus, I unpublished it. I'm going to try and rewrite the story, and maybe add a few changes such as characters, events, and some other things that may need fixing. Drome isn't paranoid. The entire world really is out to get him. And that world isn't even Earth. It's a weird hollow world that his whole village ends up in through a thaumaturgic accident. And to make matters worse, as soon as they arrive he's taken hostage. If the creatures who abducted him, and took him to the Imperial Palace, don't kill him first, there's a queue of hostiles, sharpening their knives, right behind them. Luckily Drome escapes with the help of a living skeleton, but that relationship is more than a little strained by Drome's unerring ability to annoy everyone he meets. Getting back to his village won't be easy, seeing as he's not even sure where it is. But he needs to return quickly and warn them of the homicidal imperial troops on their way to wipe out every person in it. That's if someone else doesn't kill him first.Complete
