Janie Mayway is a typical seventeen year old with a boyfriend and a best friend or two.  Except the part where she'll be a Guardian when she graduates and protect Rosie, her best friend, from Ozers.  Everything is all right until a boy named Mikhail, and a girl named Cassidy, show up.  Janie can't help the connection she has with Mikhail and it seems the more her boyfriend, Loron, hangs out with Cassidy, the more distant they become.  Things start to spiral down from there.  Together, Janie, the Chosen one, and Mikhail, someone who's not so human, try to stop whatever's happening.
