Jezebel Davidson is one of the most eligible young women in all of London in the year 1735. Her mother, the fair Marie, is also an available women as well. But how could her mother be eligible for marriage? 

Because one night, the night that Jezebel was born to be exact, the young Mr. Davidson took off without a trace, leaving his wife husbandless and his daughter fatherless.
