After Rey had left to train with Luke Skywalker, The Resistance and The Order started a war. They were slowly starting to loose hope from starting to lose a few of the battles having to be done and served.
Luke was training Rey to be prepared for any type of battle and the path of the Jedi code. While in training, they have no idea what is going on in the other side of the Galaxy, but Luke can sense a slight disturbance in the force. War.
General Leia Organa had ordered a mission for Rey to be brought back along with Luke to be known of what was going on, and how they will start to prepare. Poe takes the offer and Finn goes with him.
Kylo Ren was starting to take over a few planets and galaxies one by one with the Knights of Ren. Snoke calls him and Hux in to explain what is going on and how he wants Kylo to take his knights and take some pilots and others from General Organa's army to spoil what their plan is.

Mod Maker's Star Wars Sequel Trilogy
Star Wars is owned by LucasFilm & Disney. I do not particularity like the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy so I will make my own remake base on the ideas from the actual films and fan theories. I will keep the same titles, characters, factions as the actual films. I will tie it in to the past six episodes. There are two years in between each episode in my Sequel Trilogy. Making Episode IX exactly seventy years after Episode I. It will tie the 2 previous trilogies and the only 2 good cartoons (The Clone Wars 2008 & Rebels 2014) together into one story. This is a more satisfying end to the Skywalker Saga. MM's Episode VII: The Force Awakens 30 years after the battle of Endor. Luke vanishes but starts a race to find him for winning Jedi training from him. While his nephew, Kylo Ren/Ben Solo starts the First Order from the ashes of the Galactic Empire to destroy the New Republic which formed from the Rebellion. MM's Episode VIII: The Last Jedi 2 years after Rey started Jedi training from the last true Jedi Luke. Rey is starting to get frustrated that Kylo said that she is "significant" and Luke confirmed this but does not tell her because she is not ready so she starts to think that joining Kylo Ren might be a better bath. Sequel to my rewrite of The Last Jedi, One Year later Kylo Ren is making strides as the new Supreme Leader of the First Order with help from Grand Admiral Thrawn who's unparalleled intelligence and deeply analytical mind has made him the First Order's greatest asset in taking down the New Republic, in addition to Kylo Ren discovering an ancient superweapon built during the days of the old republic in the unknown regions known as the Starforge which can create entire fleets by absorbing the energy of stars which they use to create a new fleet of ships for a large-scale invasion of Coruscant being orchestrated by Chancellor Hux.
