(Short story)
My hands go numb and tremble as I start remembering bits and pieces of that night. My vision gets darker as I find myself tumbling over to the bed.

"Sweetie?" I hear my mother's voice. She's scared. I can hear it, so I try my best to snap myself out of the heinous act I have committed that night. "Are you okay?" I start to feel again and remember that I'm still holding the brush.

My vision goes back to normal as I stand up and answer my mother's question, "Yes, mom. I'm alright. I'll go down in a minute." I put the brush down on the bed and then take my bag whilst running down the stairs. As I do, I think, How do I even forget when everything reminds me of it? Who would kill a guy? As I was proceeding with my thoughts, that hoodie guy turned his face towards me. My heart had a mini heart attack. I turned my heels to the opposite direction and started to run. 'Run Ella, run for your life' was what my mind was screaming to me. I took turns without thinking, that guy was now following me and guess what? I took a wrong turn and which ended up being a dead end ' You are so dead' I thought. So, I started to think what I said last time to the people I love. 'Good night mom, love you.' to my mom, 'Stop annoying me! I'm going to bed.' to dad which also mean I love you, 'See you later Lu, love you!' to Luana. Okay my good bye says I love them all. Now I can die in peace. Granddad I'll meet you soon in the heaven, if you are there. I was still in my deep thoughts until I saw his silhouette. As, he get closer, my heart begin to race faster. I closed my eyes, until I heard him say "Ella?" O to the M to the G, this person actually knows me. I opened my one eye and saw him due to the small light hanging in that ally "Errrrr'ick!" I squeaked and mentally face palmed myself. Even at this state I'm calling him Errr'ick. "I'm sorry your highness, what can I do for you?" I squeaked again while trembling. The next second I heard his fits of laughter. He was rolling on the floor, actually rofling. I was glaring at him but I realised that I'm not in a position to glare. So, I made puppy dog face for him to spare my little life. He stopped but after seeing my face, he started to laugh again. He tried to say between his guffaws "You..... your face .....was epiccc!" He started to gasp for air and had tears in his eyes.

I was feeling dizzy, everything was spinning. I felt like I was in slow motion groaning at the pain looking down the stairs. That's the last thing I see before I black out. No one stopped to look. No one glanced in the alley I cried in. I was tired of this place, so tired of the endless days that stretched out before me. The emptiness in my heart was eating me alive, with no end in sight. My own darkness was swallowing me whole and leaving nothing alive. The tears froze on my bright red cheeks. I was tired of feeling so broken, but most of all I was tired of being so alone. I pulled out the cold heavy weapon from my coat and stared at it. "If someone would look this way," I thought, "If someone would just glance at me and see my pain. I won't do it." There was a man standing in front of me. After he removed the single bullet from my pistol, he handed it back to me, and left. I followed the man at a distance back to his apartment. He knew that I had followed him and waited at the door to let me in. For reasons I cannot explain I entered his tiny apartment. I fell asleep at the table playing with the bullet and woke up to my alarm the following morning. There was a pillow beneath my head, a blanket over my shoulders, and a note that read: "Dear Stranger..."

"Who are you?" I demand. The boy in front of me replies, "That's not how this works, love." I freeze. That phrase. That voice. It can't be. I look up but he's just a cloaked silhouette. The rustling stops when boys surrounding us step from their hiding spots and light lanterns. Every single one of them masked and cloaked. Except the one in front of me. The lamps lit, and I see his face. "Whoa," slips from my lips as I stare at the boy in front of me. His eyes widen and his jaw almost, just almost, drops. With his guard down for that one instant I lose all fear and gain control. "You!" I yell suddenly overflowing with anger. My stomach heats with rage. I fight to stand, stronger this time with anger as fuel. He backs up, his breath increasing. Obviously, uneasy, I take it as a win and almost stand all the way. "You. What are you doing here? How did you find this place!" He switched to angry. "You! You're the reason! They put me back because of you! It was all cause of you! It was your fault! All of it!" I'm so angry I yell only what I can. My thoughts flying through my head I can only yell unexplained nonsense. I've never felt anger like this before. The red glow lightly pours off my own skin and I take notice to it. I compare it to the glow coming off of him. Suddenly, it's an instinct to allow the anger to explode and in doing so the red glow is taken from his chest as I absorb it all and throw it out in all directions. I yank down away from the boy holding me just as the red glow gets sucked from him, absorbed into my hands, and then thrown out in a sphere of red glow. All boys stumbling but not by much and the one holding me gets knocked back, I'm free. "You die now, Peter Pan!"

I narrow my eyes at him, taking note of his features in case I miraculously survive this encounter. His hair is a dark auburn and his eyes that watch me with amusement are a dark blue. His attire was a black suit which seemed out of place considering he was standing in an alleyway. If I manage to escape I want to be confident that'd I'd be able to have this bastard put behind bars. Again if... His eyes shift, my eyes widening as his eyes turn from a dark blue to a pool of black, red veins trailing along from his pupil to the edge of his eyes. His voice is dark as he commands, "Show me that pretty little neck of yours." ೋღ🌹ღೋ ⚠️ Warning!!! This book is extremely dark and has depictions of Mature language, violence, sexual activity, sexual and physical abuse, including rape. Rape is a serious crime often overlooked where the victim is made to believe it is their fault. I do not condone rape however, it's a reality. Please only read if your 18+ and with caution. The strip of leather made contact with the skin on my back. The burning pain soared and I had to grit my teeth so no noise came out. I've lost count. I can't even remember the number of times he has brought the whip down onto my back. The burning sensation cooled and for a few seconds I thought the torture had finished but my thoughts soon came crashing down. Instead of being mauled by the whip, I heard a crunch as the bones in my torso were crushed by a heavy booted foot kicking me in the side. I grunted in pain. I had been in this cell for God knows how long and it was now probably some time in the evening. "Trying to be clever are we?" His voice booms out, his voice makes me flinch. "That's what you think smart ass. But I was trying to protect her." I replied back. I shouldn't have said that because moments later I'm kicked again in the side; this time so hard that I can feel a rib sink into one of my lungs. I fly towards the opposite wall in the cell, landing on my back. The specks of dirt and dust dig into the deep cuts on my back making me suck in a quick breath. I grunt and try to get up onto my feet but I feel a firm grip on the base of my neck. Before I know it, my feet are no longer touching the ground and I'm struggling for air. This is it. I'm dying. For a moment I fear she's mad at me but then she puts her head on my shoulder and I know we're okay.

I got more and more annoyed as he drove up, parked and unmounted his bike. He pulled off his helmet and shook his head, noticing me there staring at him. We just stared at each other, neither moving, neither speaking. He started to make his way up his driveway, not even bothering with a greeting, so I called out to him. "Hey! Where've you been?" I tried not to sound accusatory or angry, and I succeeded. Though I sounded more hurt than anticipated. He stopped and walked towards me. He walked kind of slowly, like he was trying to avoid me. I stood on the steps, fighting the urge to walk towards him so we could talk. Never ever did I think I'd want to talk to him, yet here I was. Once in front of me he stayed at the bottom step, not climbing up further. He said nothing and I repeated my question once again, "Where have you been?" He shifted then just replied with "Out." "Out?" I repeated, getting refueled with annoyance. "That's it? You've been missing all day and all you have to say is you were out?" "Fuck, dude, what are you, my mom? I was out! Are you trying to keep tabs on me or something?" I was angry at him, and started to feel feelings towards him that I haven't felt in months. I stepped down two steps to look at him eye level, ready to argue with him. But, rather than open my mouth to fight, I found myself staring at his tired gaze and freezing for a moment. I didn't want to fight with him, and I saw he didn't want to fight with me-at least, that was my hope. I let my glare fall and closed the distance between us, wrapping my arms around him in the tightest hug I could muster. He seemed shocked, remaining rigid in my arms until I quietly muttered, "I was worried about you, jackass," into his neck. He just sighed before relaxing and hugging me back.
