Kate is a 13 year old girl who's parents had just gotten divorced and her mother has gotten full custody of Kate and her brother Brian. Brian is in the hospital with a head injury.
Kate's mother Ms. Sullivan is an abusive mother and one night she gets really drunk and goes after Kate. Kate gets out of the house and runs to the Jenkinsons house for safety.
