  Η 'Εμμα Σουάν είναι μια 28χρονη γυναίκα που εγκατέλειψε τον γιο της πριν από 10 χρόνια. Μια μέρα της χτυπάει την πόρτα ο Χένρι ένα 10χρονο αγόρι που ισχυρίζεται ότι είναι ο γιος της και ζητάει απελπισμένα την βοήθεια της. Σύμφωνα με τον Χένρι, η Έμμα είναι η κόρη της Χιονάτης και του πρίγκιπα του παραμυθιού. Όταν γεννήθηκε με μαγικό τρόπο στάλθηκε μακριά από τον παραμυθένιο κόσμο για να προστατευτεί από την κατάρα της μάγισσας. Αδυνατώντας να βρει το μωρό, η μάγισσα παγίδεψε τους ήρωες του παραμυθιού στον δικό μας κόσμο στην πόλη Στόρυμπρουκ, χωρίς να έχουν καμιά ανάμνηση του παρελθόντος.
