Opal Houston, a spirited but timid girl of 12, has just moved to the small and active town of Holdridge Hills. Her fear of being laughed at or rejected in a new school has blocked her from making new friends her age. But this along with her love of poetry and writing, will guide her to some very unusual friends who will teach her to open up and that friends come in the most unpredictable ways.
