Laylonnie "Layla" Martinez just wanted to get through high school without any problems. She wanted to keep a low profile and stay off of everyone's conflict list. Just by looking at her you can tell that she had trust issues. Layla only trusted two people, her best friend Santanna, and her boyfriend André.

But André hasn't been acting the same lately.

Plus, has anyone ever thought about the reason why she was so closed off?

Her plans of keeping everything on the DL are ruined when she meets the school's player, Reece Jones. But what she doesn't know is that he has inner demons just like she does, maybe even more.

So what'll happen when these two paths cross? Will André stay hers forever, or will the school's bad ass player be just a little too tempting?

She looks up at me, taking a step forward and smiling slightly, "How can I ever get hurt when I have you here to protect me?" "But you could have gotten hurt," I murmur softly, hanging my head and feeling my shoulders drop, the tension seeping from my body. "No. Stop," She cuts me off sternly but tenderly, "Don't talk like that, Reece. I'm okay, you're okay, we're okay," She speaks softly, reaching her hand up to gently brush her thumb over my cheek, just under the cut that's there. "We're okay," I repeat, taking a small step closer to her. She nods with a small smile, moving her hand down from my cheek and instead placing the palm of her hand on my chest, right over my heart. I know she can feel how fast my heart is beating. I just don't know why it's doing that. ~ Reece Carter is the bad boy of Northwood High. He smokes and he fights. Kaleb Knightly, Briarwood High School's own bad boy. But he's not your typical 'bad boy.' He makes straight A's, he doesn't sleep around, and he cares about people and isn't afraid to show that he cares. Since bumping into Layla Davis, the school's loner, freshman year, he's been intrigued by her. She's a mystery that he wants to solve. With the help of his cousin and friends, he hopes to become friends with her. But Layla doesn't want that. She wants to stay invisible. She wants nothing to do with him or anyone. But Kaleb and his friends just can't take no for an answer. As Kaleb and his friends try to break down her walls and someone from her past reappears, will she let her wall fall or build them up higher and stronger? ***Amazing cover made by @faithfulness254*** Like I say with all my stories... I'm not great at writing a summary for them. Please give the story a try, though. You might just like it. I will also try writing a better summary once I write more of the story. My stories always seem to go differently than I originally planned. 😊 #3 in YoungAdults 12/01/2022
