I walked through the school hallways with my head held high and my steps with confidence. No one looked, no one noticed. All they saw was the girl with the so-called perfect family. They saw the girl who was at the top of the social hierarchy, popular and "loved". No one knew. But then he came back. After the torture and waiting, he finally came back. 2 or so years passed by, the scars inside and out plastered with fake smiles and happiness. I was just laying down on my bed, cuddled up with a book, when I heard a faint creak on the stairs. The sound was muffled seeing as the door was shut, but I heard it nevertheless. My eyes wandered to the door and I tried to be as silent as possible in my attempt to locate another sound. My body was tense, but relaxed when I didn't hear another noise. It's probably just my imagination, I thought. My paranoia was probably just getting the best of me since I was home alone. I heard the stairs creak again however and I heard... Footsteps. I put my book down slowly and got off my bed as quietly as I could. Yes, those were definitely footsteps. I opened my door slowly, trying to be as silent as possible. We held our breath as we heard footsteps enter the dark room. My heart raced and I covered my mouth to keep from screaming as tears ran down my cheeks.
