Set in the 2030's. It has been twenty years since the Cordyceps broke out. The Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis, an entomopathogenetic fungus, infects the human brain, taking over the body to form it into a zombie-like being. In a crippled society, and apocalyptic land, Joel, once a father, Ellie, a smuggled subject, and others must cross almost the entire US in search of a cure for the infection.
