Niall is a young and talented Mage, he has been studying at the Tower since he was ten. Now 24 he is about to graduate when the Empire invades from the South, all of the senior Mages and graduates are sent South to help the Royal Army against the Empire's dark sorcerers.
Zayn is from the Il’Soral Forest, a region to the west of Alvena, his people have battled against the Humans for hundreds of years. But when a Human arrives from the Wardens, Zayn enters a wider conflict and is forced to forget his hatred of Humans.
Liam is the son of the noble Lord Payne, he is a skilled Knight and a loyal friend. When disaster strikes, it takes Liam a lot of strength to overcome his fear and anxiety, after fleeing his home, he finds his way to the Reach, intent on dying in combat, until he is found by the Wardens and is given a purpose once again.
Harry is the son of a smith from the capitol, Alvena City. After years of feeling he doesnt belong in the City or as a Smith's apprentice, Harry leaves in search of adventure. He hears that the Royal Army is heading South to face off against the Empire, he joins the steady flow of recruits hoping for his share of the glory.
Louis is an orphan from the South. Long raided and pillaged by Imperial soldiers, he turned against the law and became a bandit. Soon he gained reputation and led a small band of men and women who raided Imperial and Alvenan travellers alike. Until the Empire's Legions arrive and Louis presents himself to the Royal Army, pledging to fight for Alvena against the Empire.
