Kari lives in a future where a third World War has happened. This time led by China and most of 'New China' which is what is now Asia. The war resulted in the United State if China. Kari grew up free, but "Now things are different", as her Father says. When her local high school burns down, the new government builds a new one. But as big and fancy as the school is, something seems off.  Everyone is acting weird; they're obviously nervous. But, about what? Then in seventh period, the lights  go out, and everyone in Mrs. Stokes science class hears the click of a door opening, and the lights are back on. As the children look around, they realize that not everything is the way it was left. The teachers are gone, the doors are open, and the front and back doors are locked. A several weeks pass the kids grow increasingly nervous as nothing comes in from the outside world. Alone, they fight to escape.
