The following extract is of the first three chapters of my book. Set against the backdrop of a hypothetical global nuclear conflict at the beginning of the 1980s, The Observer follows Dennis, a member of the UK Royal Observer Corp, a military voluntary civil defence organisation whose wartime job was to monitor nuclear explosions and gather data for fallout predictions. With war imminent as the Soviets and the USA battle in the Middle East, the story opens a few days before hostilities break out and with the UK descending into chaos as marshal law, road blocks and riots dominate the landscape. Between shifts in his bunker, Dennis battles with life in pre-war Britain as well as a conflict of opinion with a wife who is determined that family should come before duty. Lost in the regret of boredom and estrangement from his brother and now deceased father, Dennis disagrees. The terrifying screech of the sirens sound as the world is plunged into nuclear war. Now Dennis fulfils his duty alongside his two companions, logging explosions within their vicinity. Disillusioned by the reality of war, his companions protest as Dennis reports every explosion to Group Control until it too is destroyed, leaving them with no further role to fulfil. Each person now faces their own demons as they wait for the fallout to clear. Dennis in particular has to fight his history of childhood failure. One month later Dennis emerges alone from the bunker, riddled with guilt as to why he abandoned his wife and child at such a critical time. Determined to find his family, Dennis travels across the ravaged countryside. He returns to his village to find it has been evacuated and with evidence that even this far from the cities the effect of blasts has left its mark.

Born of a vampire and a werewolf, 17 year old Kira Yuuki was never really accepted by either kind, feared by humans for being a monster, and hated by vampires and werewolves for being neither one or the other. Strangely enough, Kira didn't mind, for he had two parents that were always very kind to him. But his happiness didn't last. One day, at the age of 12, Kira and his parents were out on a walk in the woods, and they were supposedly attacked by a bear. Kira's father gave him The Skull's Amuleto (a powerful necklace owned by Kira's family for ages.) and told him to take care of his young two year old sister, Nani. Years later, he settled into a village and lived with Nani and his girlfriend Janice. When all seems well again, Nani is killed and Kira is convicted along with Janice. They escape, and Janice and Kira are attacked from behind. He passes out, to find himself in a hospital (500 years in the future) and with amnesia. He tries to rediscover himself and meets Marsha and her daughter, Kiki along the way, which eventually help him in looking for Janice, who may or may not be still alive. Will he rise to the light, or fade to death?

That strange feeling where a person feels like someone is standing behind them, but when they turn around, no one is there. That is how Kira feels; the intensity of those feelings grows with each passing year. It was only a matter of time before the Gates would open, and once more, Kira would face her own personal demon. He will come for her, and one of them will die, if not both of them. Looking back at her very long life, Kira realizes that she has many regrets. Such as allowing herself to live in fear, sheltering herself away in heaven, giving up her only child, not being there for her or their kin, and only watching what she has created bloom from afar. Had Kira known she was running out of time, she would've done things differently. For the choices she has made, she will pay the price. Time is ticking, like the sands of an hourglass. No matter how hard she tries to delay the inevitable, the sand continues to flow through her fingers. Nothing could prepare them for what is to come. Between the journal and Kira's nightmarish dreams, she doesn't know which scares her more. However, she does know one thing, and that is that she refuses to go down easily, even if it means she must make the ultimate sacrifice. It will be a fight to the finish.

Star Wars: Reborn as the character who never existed by Elainnmavis

For the last 12 years Kira was stuck in a hospital bed with only one means of escape: Star Wars. After the car crash that ended her mother's life and paralyzed her, only the outer space adventures cheered her up. So when a VRMMORPG of Star Wars came out she agreed to be one of the first beta-testers. Half a year after the game came out, she unfortunately approached the end. Her last regrets were that in this life she couldn't protect her mother and that she couldn't finish the game she loved. But when she opened her eyes, not only was she alive, but she was IN Star Wars. She had been reborn as the daughter of Satine Kryze, but wait a second no such character ever existed in the normal Star Wars universe. Now she is going to try and rewrite the fate of the galaxy, so that she can save not only her new family, but possibly the rest of the galaxy as well!
