A short story for the Weekly Contest:

Joyce is an eighteen year old girl who has spent most of her life cooped up in bed in a not so beautiful slumber because she is slowly easing out of her long slumbers that she has due to her Sleeping Beauty Syndrome. Now that she is awake she plans to live her life until sleep creeps its away into her and one night she meets Gabriel.

Gabriel is a nineteen year old homeless man who is a minor alcoholic and doesn't have his priorities in check. Gabriel is 'mysterious' and when seeing a girl in the small town they reside in he is confused on the girl who sits across the bar eating nachos in a clubbing dress.

One encounter is the beginning of it all...

This is the story of an abused teenage girl, Maddie. Her need to die has become overwhelming and she is trying to find a way to help herself before she does something she may regret. Usually, I wouldn't get myself into this type of situation so I wasn't sure if I should be anxious but the lady was lovely, so I didn't think I should be worried. "Can I answer all of the above ma'am? Purdy kidnapped me for the afternoon," I truthfully answered. "And would you like a pass that sets you free, sweetie," she asks me raising her eyebrows so high she looked like she is in shock. "Oh no, ma'am Purdy can capture me anytime. I am enjoying myself; I'm finding this art class very soothing." "I stared at her beautiful caramel skin, her glass skin. Even her freckles were smooth and soft. I'm not sure if other people would classify her as beautiful, but her large blueish gray eyes, the ones that held such intelligent and innocence and serenity, that is was impossible for me not to be held prisoner by them. Her cheekbones weren't high and defined, and her nose was a little too small to be considered perfect to other guys. However, her glorious features kept me captivated. Her lips weren't as I imagined them to be. I expected her to come with makeup on, maybe a little lip gloss, but they were coated with lip balm. I could smell it from here, the sweet scent of mango. She wore her natural hair, or at least I thought it was, and it was pulled into a high messy bun. There were curly baby hairs around her whole head. She wore diamond earrings. I expected her to be dressed up, since that's normally how I perceived girls to be, but she dressed comfortably. She wore a forest green sweatshirt, black tights, and brown Uggs. She might've been kinda creeped out by the way I was looking at her, but she was just so beautiful. She was my world."
