Dakota Black was a good friend and cousin of Jacob Black. When her parents divorce, her dad decides to move back to her birth place, La Push and she has no choice but to go with him.

Upon moving into the reserve, Jacob introduces her to his friends and she is instantly drawn to Paul Lahote.

To Dakota, Paul was dark and mysterious, was often irritating and had the shortest temper she'd ever came across, making him a massive pain in the backside.

His mimicking smirk, wit, and tough guy act was one of the reasons why Dakota couldn't stay away.

The other reason being she was Paul's imprint.
