Tris didn't die but was in a coma. By the time she recovers life has continued in Chicago. Unable to return she must watch the ones she loves continue on without her.
The trauma caused in the end of allegiant never wore off, overtime it did more damage to Tris's brain, causing her to slowly forget who she is.

Meanwhile the news has spread to Chicago that Tris could be alive and Tobias is willing to do everything he can to get back to her. Even defy his leaders once again.
