Emysriel Goven Lives with her aging grandfather whom has sheltered her most her life. She is a descendant of one of the nine superior houses of Grimwurt. However her grandfather does not let her live like one. She has never been to a summer gala. Never met those of the other houses beyond her cousins Reed and his mother. And she absolutely has never stepped foot inside the school all the nine attended. Drediig Academy of Madder Magic.

Emy has been rigorously trained by tutors most her live to learn the basic magic skills though she has never had much ability. She unlike the other children of the nine has no strange talent or natural gift. She assumes this is why her grandfather keeps her locked away. She is an embarrassment to the family. To her and her family's surprise, her grandfather announces she will be flung into Drediig a year behind. To her own shock she some how is accepted. She can only guess at the reasoning behind his decision and upon her arrival soon finds out she knows very little about her position there and what comes with being one of the nine.
