"I do promised you a lot of things, I'm afraid," His word muffled against her head, "Just, let me give you my word one last time. Not for me, not for you, not for us. Its for Ian. He needs it, he needs my promise, he needs me to believe, needs us to believe."

"No." She looked up, "He needs your love, your compassion, your warmth. He needs his dad."

He let his arm off Gillian's back. He cupped Gillian's cheek, looking deep into her eyes.

"Promise me that, promise me that you will always be there for him, as his dad, promise me that you will stop being a stranger to him, to us."

He leaned down, resting his forehead on Gillian's, "I promise."
