Gerard Way is turning into a man.

Or so he says.

Being gay and being a whimp are two things Gerard tries telling himself he is not. But his drunken father thinks differently. Men aren't supposed to stay inside all day playing piano and drawing. Men aren't supposed to like other men, his father claims.

Gerard is nearly thirteen, and he thinks being a man means smoking a tobacco pipe on the front porch and fixing cars, but really, it's about change.

It's about change for the better, as well as the worse. And when Gerard meets a boy named Frank, not only does his whole world change, but it also turns upside down.
