The option is tempting, but there's something deeper to this story. Something that prohibits his inner murderer from stabbing her lifeless. It was eating the flesh of a dead man. The sight made her sick to her stomach, and the creature targeted her next. That's when the man she saw in the distance intervened. He had some kind of training to fight something like that, and the woman had to go through it now too.
