Isaiah Memphis had always dreamed of following in his older brother, Kobe's footsteps. Kobe Grant was a well known gang leader in their hood, and by succession Isaiah was next in line when he turned 18. After Kobe is killed in a gang fight, Isaiah turns his back on his set and meets Lacey, a fiery Latina determined to go to college and leave the hood. She convinces him to focus on his studies and the two slowly become closer than friends. But when a house fire destroys his home, Isaiah is forced to leave Lacey behind to live with the father he never knew.
